The Association for Advancing Automation (A3) has made ANSI/A3 R15.08-3-2026 available, completing its three-part safety standard covering industrial mobile robots and their applications. Part 3, titled “Safety Requirements, Part 3: Use of IMR Applications,” addresses the responsibilities of organizations operating industrial mobile robot applications in the workplace. It sets requirements and provides guidance intended to maintain acceptable levels of risk during routine operations and throughout the machinery lifecycle.
The standard covers areas including risk assessment, management of change, employee training, and periodic reviews and inspections of IMR applications. The broader R15.08 series divides safety requirements across different stages and participants in an industrial mobile robot application. Part 1 covers safety requirements for industrial mobile robots, while Part 2 addresses IMR systems and applications. Part 3 focuses on the continued use of those applications during day-to-day operations.
A3 developed Part 3 alongside Part 3 of the ANSI/A3 R15.06 industrial robot safety standard. The organization said the parallel development was intended to provide consistent guidance for the continued operation of both fixed industrial robot systems and industrial mobile robot applications. ANSI/A3 R15.08-3-2026 is available as a PDF through A3’s online store. A3 is also offering the three parts of the R15.08 standard as a combined package.
A3 represents more than 1,500 organizations, including manufacturers, component suppliers, system integrators, end users, academic institutions, research groups and consulting firms involved in automation.
