ABB Robotics launches no-code tool for robot interface programming

by Marco van der Hoeven

ABB Robotics has unveiled AppStudio, a no-code software tool designed to simplify the creation of customized user interfaces for ABB robots and collaborative robots (cobots). The tool is aimed at reducing setup times by up to 80% and is compatible with all ABB robots operating on the OmniCore controller platform.

AppStudio provides users with a drag-and-drop interface to build tailored operator interfaces, allowing for the addition of icons, dropdown menus, and buttons. It also supports more advanced users with a JavaScript-based component kit for custom configurations. A cloud-based library offers templates, models, and modules in multiple languages, enabling users to share and reuse application setups. This functionality is intended to help businesses streamline robot integration and reduce programming complexity, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Marc Segura, President of ABB Robotics Division, stated that the growing shortage of skilled labor is driving the need for simplified automation solutions. He emphasized that AppStudio is designed to be accessible to both novice and experienced users, facilitating faster and more seamless robot integration across various applications.

The software supports the migration of users transitioning from ABB’s IRC5 controller to the OmniCore platform. By enabling previously developed interfaces to be rebuilt in minutes, AppStudio is expected to minimize downtime and increase productivity. Interfaces created in AppStudio can also be deployed to ABB robots or digital twins within ABB’s RobotStudio programming tool, further enhancing programming flexibility.

AppStudio complements ABB’s existing suite of automation tools, including Wizard Easy Programming and RobotStudio. According to ABB, this comprehensive ecosystem simplifies the integration of robotics into new and existing workflows, expanding the accessibility of robotic automation.

The software is available for free download on ABB’s website.
