Global end-user spending on information security is projected to reach $213 billion in 2025, rising from $193 billion in 2024, according to a forecast by Gartner. The growth is expected to continue into 2026, with spending forecasted at $240 billion. Gartner identifies the expanding use of artificial intelligence, including generative AI, by both internal users and malicious actors, as a central factor driving increased investment in cybersecurity.
The report also points to continued migration to cloud-based systems, regulatory developments, and broader cybersecurity awareness as contributing to the rise in expenditure. While some organisations are proceeding cautiously with new security investments amid ongoing uncertainty, established security spending remains steady, according to Gartner analysts.
Security software remains the fastest-growing segment, supported by increased demand for cloud security posture management and cloud access security brokers. The use of AI tools, both defensively and offensively, is expected to influence cybersecurity priorities and spending strategies in the coming years.
Gartner will further examine security and risk management developments at its upcoming summit, scheduled for 22–24 September 2025 in London, United Kingdom.
