AI Agents Become Public Servants

by Marco van der Hoeven

Salesforce has announced the launch of Agentforce for the public sector, a platform designed to help government agencies automate administrative processes with AI-powered agents. The system is intended to support public employees with time-consuming tasks such as processing permits, answering citizen inquiries, and handling complaints.

The company stated that the introduction responds to growing pressure on governments to improve efficiency while dealing with staff shortages and rising public expectations. Agentforce enables agencies to deploy both ready-made and customized agents and, according to Salesforce, meets international compliance and data protection standards, including FedRAMP High, Protected-B, and IRAP.

One of the first adopters is the city of Kyle, Texas, where residents use the platform to access information and track service requests, ranging from reporting road damage to requesting updates on council meetings.

The platform includes prebuilt functions such as compliance support, complaint analysis and grouping, recruitment management, and assistance for citizens applying for benefits. It can also recommend job vacancies that match an applicant’s profile, aiming to simplify the search process for job seekers.

Agentforce is integrated into Salesforce’s existing infrastructure and is powered by the Atlas Reasoning Engine and Trust Layer, which the company says ensure secure and responsible use of AI. Agencies can configure and adapt the system to their specific processes using templates and natural language, without requiring extensive technical expertise.
