AI Agents Deal with Supply Chain Disruptions

by Marco van der Hoeven

AI agents are now taking on a central role in helping businesses manage global supply chain disruptions. Fujitsu has launched a new solution that uses these agents to rapidly assess the impact of market changes—like rising costs, delays, or supplier issues—and recommend the best response. The system simulates different scenarios, such as switching suppliers or adjusting pricing, to help companies make faster, more informed decisions.

Available globally starting today, the new tool is part of Fujitsu’s Data Intelligence PaaS (DI PaaS) platform, which consolidates and analyzes data from multiple sources. By using AI to automate what used to be slow, manual processes, the platform aims to improve how companies respond to disruptions and strengthen overall supply chain resilience.

The AI agents first identify where disruptions are hitting hardest—whether that’s a supplier, a factory, or a transportation route. Then they calculate how those disruptions affect product costs and profits. This analysis, which could previously take weeks, can now be done in a matter of days.

The system also includes a pricing simulator that predicts how customers might respond to price changes based on shifting costs. This helps companies adjust their pricing strategies in real time. Another feature evaluates the impact of operational changes, like sourcing materials from different suppliers or rerouting shipments, to find more cost-effective solutions.

An orchestrator AI agent pulls together the findings and offers final recommendations, giving decision-makers a clear picture of potential outcomes before taking action.

Fujitsu says the solution is designed to help companies prepare for and respond to sudden changes in the global environment. It’s being offered as part of Fujitsu Uvance, the company’s broader initiative to apply digital technologies to cross-industry challenges.
