AI Optimizes INDYCAR

by Pieter Werner

Monolith will deliver artificial intelligence (AI) technology to PREMA Racing to support racecar setup optimisation in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, beginning with the 2025 Indianapolis 500. As PREMA Racing’s AI development partner, Monolith will provide machine learning solutions designed to analyse trackside data in real time, enabling engineers to make rapid, data-informed decisions.

The AI platform will support the creation of customised aerodynamic maps and the deployment of virtual sensors, while also implementing anomaly detection systems to validate incoming performance data during race events. These tools are intended to streamline setup processes by identifying performance trends and irregularities without the need for extensive physical testing.

PREMA Racing will use Monolith’s software to process complex variables such as track characteristics, weather conditions, and driver behaviour. This approach is aimed at improving both time and cost efficiency in race preparation, by reducing the number of test cycles typically required to optimise car performance.

The partnership extends beyond INDYCAR, with Monolith also confirmed as a sponsor of PREMA Racing’s teams in the FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships. It follows Monolith’s ongoing work in top-tier motorsport, including its role in the FIA World Endurance Championship, where its platform contributes to performance development for Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA in the Hypercar category.

Monolith’s platform is designed to enable engineering teams to extract predictive insights from historical test data using no-code machine learning tools. Its features include the ‘Next Test Recommender’ and an AI-based ‘Anomaly Detector’, both developed to assist in reducing product development times and improving engineering outcomes.
