LG Innotek and Boston Dynamics will co-develop a vision sensing system for robotic applications. The agreement involves the integration of LG Innotek’s camera and sensor technologies into Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot, Atlas.
Under the terms of the collaboration, LG Innotek will design and supply a vision sensing module that incorporates components such as RGB cameras and 3D sensing modules. Boston Dynamics will be responsible for developing software to process the visual data generated by the module. The system is intended to enhance the robot’s ability to perceive its environment in varied conditions, including low-light and adverse weather.
The companies indicated that this project builds on LG Innotek’s experience in optical and sensing technologies, which have been applied in both smartphones and autonomous vehicles. The firm previously introduced a similar multi-sensor product, the Sensor Pod, at CES 2024, targeting the automotive sector.
In addition to the vision module, the two companies plan to explore further collaboration in optics and other robotic technologies. This initiative is part of LG Innotek’s broader effort to expand its presence in sectors beyond mobile devices, including semiconductors, autonomous driving, and robotics.
