Automatica: Universal Robots Launches UR Studio

by Pieter Werner

Universal Robots has introduced UR Studio, an online simulation platform designed to assist in the configuration of robotic work cells. The tool was launched at the automatica trade fair in Munich and is integrated with PolyScope X, the company’s software platform.

UR Studio enables users to create detailed digital simulations of robotic setups, allowing for the testing of robot movements, assessment of reach and speed, and calculation of cycle times. The platform supports interaction with various robot models, workpieces, and commonly used end effectors such as grippers. Users can also import custom elements to mirror their physical workspace more accurately.

The simulation tool is accessible via desktop browsers without the need for installation and is offered at no cost. It includes pre-configured templates for typical automation tasks including machine tending, screwdriving, palletizing, and pick-and-place operations, with plans to expand the range of templates. UR Studio is currently available in English, with additional language support for German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese expected in future updates.
