Avatar Robotics has raised $6.5 million in seed funding to expand its industrial robotics platform, with the round led by AlleyCorp. The financing follows a pre-seed round led by defy.vc and included participation from Headline, Henry Ford III, Refashiond, Paul Vogel, Jack Huffard, and Samuel Udotong.
The San Francisco-based company develops robotic systems for warehouse and manufacturing operations that combine humanoid robots, remote human operators, and artificial intelligence. Its platform is designed to perform tasks including picking, packing, kitting, sorting, cycle counting, and material movement.
Avatar Robotics says its technology is intended to address labor shortages in sectors such as warehousing, logistics, and manufacturing by providing additional labor capacity while collecting operational data to improve robotic autonomy over time. The company states that its robots can be deployed without the extensive integration typically associated with traditional industrial automation systems.
According to the company, since beginning operations in December 2025, its robots have packed, sorted, and assisted in shipping more than 900,000 products across customer sites, including for a global beauty retailer. Avatar Robotics also said it has expanded beyond an initial pilot with a warehouse operator to support sorting and picking workflows, with additional deployments in progress.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer Colin Webb said the company aims to combine robotics, artificial intelligence, and remote operation to increase available industrial labor while enabling workers to operate robots from remote locations. He added that the approach could reduce operating costs and expand access to industrial jobs.
Brannon Jones, principal at AlleyCorp, said the company’s human-in-the-loop operating model has enabled it to deploy robots in customer environments while generating robot control data that could contribute to the development of robotics foundation models.
Amy Yin, partner at defy.vc, said Avatar Robotics’ strategy of using remote operators while increasing autonomous capabilities through operational data could support the long-term expansion of its robot fleet.
The company said it will use the new funding to expand customer deployments, accelerate development of its autonomy software, increase the number of robots in operation, and grow its engineering and operations teams.
Avatar Robotics said its workforce includes engineers and operators with experience at Cruise, Apple, Tesla, Intuitive Surgical, and Unity, as well as researchers with backgrounds from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The company said its long-term objective is to deploy robots across industries including warehousing, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, and infrastructure projects through a combination of remote operation and increasing levels of autonomous capability.
