In a crossover between industrial robotics and mainstream entertainment, Boston Dynamics brought its flagship quadruped robots, Spot, to the stage of America’s Got Talent (AGT) for a choreographed performance that captivated both judges and viewers.
The audition featured five Spot robots dancing in sync to Queen’s classic anthem “Don’t Stop Me Now”. The routine showcased precise coordination and balance, a testament to Spot’s advanced mobility and real-time control systems. In a dramatic twist, one robot shut down mid-performance—an unscripted moment that highlighted the resilience of the remaining units as they adapted and completed the routine seamlessly. Despite the technical hiccup, the act received four “Yes” votes from the AGT judges, securing a spot in the next round. Judge Simon Cowell noted that the malfunction, rather than detracting from the performance, added a layer of authenticity and underscored the technological complexity behind the act.
