Warehouse automation provider Brightpick has introduced Brightpick Giraffe, an autonomous mobile robot capable of reaching heights up to 20 feet (6 meters), aimed at increasing warehouse storage density and efficiency. The new system is designed to triple the storage density of manual operations and double that of the company’s previous automation solutions.
Brightpick Giraffe operates in conjunction with the company’s Autopicker robots, handling the retrieval of storage totes from upper-level shelving and delivering them to lower levels within the Autopicker’s reach, which extends up to 11 feet (3.4 meters). After items are picked, the Giraffe returns the totes to their original locations. This system enables warehouses to store slower-moving items at higher levels, while fast-moving goods remain accessible on lower shelves, optimizing both storage and throughput. A typical setup includes one Giraffe for every five Autopickers to balance cost, density, and performance.
In addition to tote retrieval, Giraffe can support inventory replenishment and order picking through Goods-to-Person stations. Its telescopic lift retracts to a compact height of 8.5 feet (2.6 meters) during movement, facilitating deployment in existing warehouse environments. The robots are delivered pre-assembled to reduce installation time.
Brightpick plans multiple U.S. installations of the Giraffe system in 2025. E-commerce company The Feed, an existing Brightpick customer, will expand its Colorado fulfillment center with 25 additional Autopickers and six Giraffes. This upgrade is expected to increase throughput by 50% to approximately 75,000 picks per day and double the facility’s storage capacity.
Medical wholesaler McGuff Company Inc. will deploy 12 Autopickers and four Giraffes at its California warehouse. The system is projected to handle over 850 picks per hour, supporting the company’s distribution of medical products, including injectable medications, to healthcare customers worldwide.
