Casio Brings Emotional Companion Robot Moflin to the U.S.

by Marco van der Hoeven

Casio America has announced the introduction of Moflin to the U.S. market. Moflin is a palm-sized smart companion robot designed to form unique emotional bonds with its owner. The device uses proprietary emotional AI to respond in real time and adapt its behavior over time, creating interactions that evolve with daily use.

The concept first drew international attention in Japan, where a crowdfunding campaign exceeded its goal by more than 3,000 percent. Building on that early success, Casio licensed and further developed the technology, leading to a commercial release overseas in 2024. Positive consumer feedback has now paved the way for Moflin’s official U.S. debut.

At the core of the design is an AI system that allows Moflin to recognize voices, respond to touch, and adapt to the way it is treated. Over time, its behavior and emotional responses become increasingly individual, creating a personality unique to each owner. Casio states that there are more than four million possible emotional configurations, meaning no two Moflins will develop in the same way.

The robot companion evolves gradually during the first weeks of interaction. Over approximately 50 days, its vocalizations change from small squeaks into more distinct and expressive sounds, reflecting a process of emotional development. Continued interaction further shapes its personality, mirroring the effect of bonding with a living companion.

Moflin has a plush design and compact form that fits easily into daily life. Casio positions it as a source of comfort and companionship at a time when interest in emotionally supportive technologies is growing. Market research figures cited by the company valued the global AI-powered emotion analytics platform market at 7.52 billion dollars in 2024, with forecasts predicting significant growth to over 28 billion dollars by 2032.

Owners can also use the MofLife mobile app, available for iOS and Android, to gain insights into their Moflin’s emotional state. The app visualizes behavioral trends and shows how daily interactions influence the way the companion evolves. Moflin is powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a lifespan of around five hours, depending on usage conditions. Charging takes roughly three and a half hours using the included charging bed and adapter.
