Nuro has become the first company to receive a permit to deploy autonomous vehicles on public streets from the California Department of Motor Vehicles. This permit will allow the vehicles to operate commercially on California roads in two counties near their headquarters in the Bay Area. The service will start with a fleet of Prius vehicles in fully autonomous mode, followed by the custom-designed electric R2 vehicles.

The global household robots market is on the rise. According to the International Federation of Robotics, unit sales of household robots are expected to increase by 46% on average per year, with more than 55 million units will be sold in 2022. Also, sales values for the household robot were up by 15% to USD 3.7 billion. A new machine learning algorithm is poised to help urban transportation analysts relieve bottlenecks and chokepoints that routinely snarl city traffic. The tool, called TranSEC, was developed at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to help urban traffic engineers get access to actionable information about traffic patterns in their cities.
