Datalogic plans to show the role of artificial intelligence across its retail portfolio during NRF 2026 in New York, positioning AI as an enabling layer for store automation, loss prevention and operational control. At the center of the presentation is the debut of the Joya Smart and Joya Smart+ devices, which the company describes as self-shopping solutions with integrated AI capabilities. The handheld devices allow shoppers to scan items while moving through the store, track basket contents in real time and complete payment at self-service or assisted checkouts. According to Datalogic, embedded AI functions support loss-prevention measures while maintaining customer autonomy during the shopping process.
AI also features prominently in checkout and inventory protection use cases. The Magellan 9600 and 9900i scanner platforms apply AI-based audit rules designed to support store associates in identifying irregular transaction patterns, such as missed scans or item substitution, as they occur. In combination with RFID technology, these systems are presented as a way to maintain checkout flow while supporting accuracy and margin protection, particularly in grocery environments. For non-food retail, the PowerScan 9600 RFID solution combines barcode and RFID data capture to provide real-time visibility of item movements in areas such as exits, checkout lanes and back rooms.
Beyond checkout, Datalogic is emphasizing AI-enabled insights across store operations through its device ecosystem and cloud platform. Mobile computers from the Memor and Skorpio families are positioned as tools for tasks including inventory counting, replenishment and order preparation, with AI-supported applications contributing to shelf monitoring and task execution. Data collected at the edge is aggregated through Datalogic Connect, the company’s cloud-based IoT platform, which provides centralized visibility into device status, checkout activity, inventory movements and loss-prevention events. The platform is presented as a means of translating operational data into actionable intelligence across multiple store locations.
