Enovis has made an offer to acquire French surgical robotics company eCential Robotics, adding its robotic surgery platform to Enovis’ portfolio of digital technologies. Financial terms of the proposed transaction were not disclosed. Following an information and consultation process with eCential Robotics’ Works Council under French law, the companies plan to enter into a definitive acquisition agreement. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Grenoble-based eCential Robotics develops technology for computer-assisted and robot-assisted surgery. Its Op.n platform combines surgical navigation and active robotics in a modular architecture intended to support multiple orthopedic applications.
The Op.n Spine platform has received US Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for spinal procedures. The company also develops and manufactures a robotic system for orthopedic applications that is integrated into medical devices available in Europe.
Enovis plans to incorporate eCential Robotics’ technology into its ASTRA technology ecosystem. The surgical robotics platform would complement Enovis’ ARVIS augmented reality system and add robotic automation capabilities to its existing surgical technologies.
“eCential Robotics’ surgical robotics platform is a natural complement to our ARVIS augmented reality system and will offer surgeons a broader range of robotic solutions,” Enovis CEO Damien McDonald said.
The companies also plan to develop a robotics center of excellence in Grenoble. The facility will support their combined robotics development activities.
eCential Robotics said it intends to continue working with spinal implant manufacturers on the US deployment of Op.n Spine and with its orthopedic robotics partners in Europe. The company has pursued a strategy of using a single technology platform across multiple orthopedic indications.
Enovis is expected to provide eCential Robotics with access to its orthopedic product portfolio and international operations if the acquisition is completed.
