FANUC America to invest $90 million in Michigan robot manufacturing facility

by Marco van der Hoeven

FANUC America plans to invest $90 million to acquire property and construct an 840,000-square-foot facility in Michigan, creating production-ready capacity for a potential expansion of its U.S.-based robot manufacturing operations.

The project, targeted for completion in late 2027, is expected to generate 225 jobs. The new facility is intended to expand the company’s engineering and advanced manufacturing capabilities as demand grows for automation systems across North America, including applications involving physical AI, virtual commissioning and digital twin technologies.

Mike Cicco, president and chief executive of FANUC America, described the investment as part of a broader effort to build on the company’s longstanding manufacturing presence in Michigan. “By expanding its U.S. presence, FANUC America will strengthen domestic manufacturing, improve responsiveness to customer needs, and support industries that rely on automation to stay competitive,” he stated.

The company noted that it has invested nearly $300 million in U.S. facilities since 2019, increasing its footprint to 3 million square feet and adding more than 700 jobs.

FANUC America also indicated that its expanded FANUC Academy in Auburn Hills, Michigan, is scheduled to open later this year. The training center is intended to support workforce development in robotics and automation as manufacturers respond to rising demand for automation expertise and the adoption of AI-enabled systems.
