A humanoid robot from US-based Figure AI made history today as the first of its kind to walk the halls of the White House. Named Figure 03, the black-and-white robot walked side by side with First Lady Melania Trump into the East Room for the second day of her international technology summit, where she hosted spouses of leaders from 45 nations and representatives from 28 technology companies.
The robot paused to scan the audience before addressing the room. It thanked Melania Trump for the invitation, identified itself as “a humanoid built for the United States of America,” and expressed gratitude for being part of what it called a historic movement to empower children through technology and education. It then welcomed the assembled guests in ten additional languages.
Trump smiled and noted the milestone: “It’s fair to state — you are my first American-made humanoid guest in the White House.” She used the robot’s appearance to promote her vision of AI-powered education, describing a near future in which humanoids move from smartphones into classrooms. She pointed to global competition in the field — particularly from China — and argued that embracing AI-directed learning would strengthen long-term US economic leadership.
The summit marks the first time a first lady has hosted the spouses of world leaders from 45 nations in a single day. Among those present were French First Lady Brigitte Macron, Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska, and Sara Netanyahu of Israel. Major technology companies including Meta, Palantir, Google, and Microsoft also attended.
