MilRem Robotics has introduced the Milrem Intelligent Function Integration Kit (MIFIK), a system that equips both manned and unmanned ground vehicles with autonomous capabilities. This development aims to reduce the cognitive load on drivers and operators while enhancing mission effectiveness. It enables vehicles to independently carry out missions based on pre-defined routes, with operators retaining the ability to modify routes afterward. The system can adapt to specific mission tasks and location-based conditions, increasing operational flexibility in the field.
A key feature of MIFIK is obstacle avoidance. The system detects and navigates around obstacles, exploring alternative routes if a path is blocked. This enhances safety and ensures continuous operations without direct human intervention. Additionally, the system enables coordinated swarm tactics, contributing to overall operational efficiency.
Milrem Robotics has already integrated the MIFIK technology into its THeMIS (Tracked Hybrid Modular Infantry System). This unmanned ground vehicle supports infantry units with logistics, reconnaissance, and combat support tasks. Its modular design allows for deployment in various roles, including transporting supplies and providing fire support.
The THeMIS system has been exported to several NATO countries and allies, including Australia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and the United States. In September 2022, Milrem Robotics delivered multiple THeMIS vehicles to Ukraine, where they were deployed for medical evacuation and supply transport. With the introduction of MIFIK, Miltech is taking a step toward further autonomy in military operations.
