Multi-Billion Dollar AI Initiatives In Saudi Arabia by U.S. Tech Firms

by Marco van der Hoeven

U.S.-based technology companies AMD, NVIDIA, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have entered into separate strategic agreements with Saudi Arabia’s newly launched artificial intelligence entity, HUMAIN, to support the development of large-scale AI infrastructure within the Kingdom. The collaborations, unveiled in May 2025, reflect a coordinated effort to establish Saudi Arabia as a regional AI development hub, aligned with the country’s Vision 2030 economic diversification strategy.

AMD and HUMAIN announced a $10 billion collaboration to deploy 500 megawatts of AI computing capacity over the next five years. According to the joint statement, the initiative will leverage AMD’s portfolio of advanced computing technologies, including central processing units (CPUs), graphics processing units (GPUs), and data processing units (DPUs). These will be supported by AMD’s ROCm open software ecosystem to create scalable infrastructure that can serve a wide array of users, including enterprises, startups, and public sector institutions. The agreement also includes joint research and development activities, with a focus on open-source AI frameworks and training programs intended to support local AI talent.

NVIDIA, in a separate agreement, disclosed that it will supply HUMAIN with 18,000 units of its GB200 Grace Blackwell superchips as part of an initiative to build what it described as “AI factories of the future.” These chips will serve as the foundation for Saudi Arabia’s AI data centers, also targeting a total computing capacity of 500 megawatts. The collaboration includes deployment of NVIDIA’s Omniverse platform, which will be used to create digital twin simulations and AI-driven industrial tools. The partnership aims to accelerate the Kingdom’s capabilities in generative AI, large language models, and industrial digitization.

Amazon Web Services also announced a strategic initiative with HUMAIN that involves more than $5 billion in planned investment. As part of the deal, AWS will establish a dedicated “AI Zone” in Saudi Arabia, equipped with the company’s full suite of AI and cloud technologies, including Amazon SageMaker, Bedrock, and Trainium-based compute. The AI Zone will provide local access to generative AI services and model training infrastructure, and is expected to play a central role in upskilling the regional workforce. AWS and HUMAIN will also collaborate on establishing an AI talent pipeline through education and training partnerships.

The three agreements collectively represent a major influx of U.S. technology into Saudi Arabia’s AI ecosystem, and mark one of the largest concerted international efforts to establish AI-specific infrastructure in the Middle East. According to HUMAIN, the combined initiatives are expected to contribute to the development of a high-capacity AI backbone that supports both domestic applications and regional demand across sectors such as energy, logistics, education, and healthcare.

The partnerships come amid growing interest from Gulf countries in positioning themselves as global players in advanced technologies. For the U.S. companies involved, the agreements offer access to a rapidly growing market for high-performance computing and AI services, backed by substantial public and private investment in the Kingdom.
