NEURA and Hyundai to develop specialized robots for shipbuilding

by Pieter Werner

NEURA Robotics, HD Hyundai Samho, and HD Hyundai Robotics have formed a partnership aimed at developing and testing quadruped and humanoid robots for shipbuilding applications. The agreement is intended to assess the potential of these robotic systems to improve operational efficiency, safety, and productivity in shipyards.

As part of the collaboration, HD Hyundai Samho will offer demonstration environments and assess the robots’ practical usability, building on its experience with shipbuilding automation. HD Hyundai Robotics will contribute technical expertise, including path learning data and performance validation, particularly in the area of welding automation. NEURA Robotics will supply its cognitive robotics technology, including its humanoid platform, 4NE1, for integration and development within shipyard operations.

The initiative comes amid a tightening labor market in the shipbuilding sector and reflects broader efforts to incorporate advanced robotics into industrial settings. The partners aim to test the robots under real-world conditions to evaluate their suitability for shipyard tasks.
