PAL Robotics to present TIAGo Pro Arm at IROS 2026

by Marco van der Hoeven

PAL Robotics will present its TIAGo Pro Arm, a standalone robotic arm for manipulation and robot-learning research, at IROS 2026 in Pittsburgh. The robotics conference is scheduled for September 27 to October 1 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The platform is intended for researchers and developers working on manipulation, perception, robot learning and AI-based robotics applications. It can operate as a fixed standalone system with different mounting configurations or be integrated with mobile platforms, including PAL Robotics’ TIAGo Pro OMNI Base, for mobile manipulation research.

TIAGo Pro Arm has seven degrees of freedom and uses PAL Robotics’ Series Elastic Actuators. The platform is based on ROS 2 and ros_control, allowing researchers to integrate sensors and adapt the system to different experimental configurations.

PAL Robotics will demonstrate the arm at booth 1005 during IROS. The company also plans to present developments involving its TIAGo robot family and its work on humanoid robotics, while members of its research team are scheduled to participate in workshops and other conference activities.

Barcelona-based PAL Robotics develops service robots and robotic platforms for commercial and research applications. The company, founded in 2004, has participated in more than 60 collaborative research projects and develops systems including the TIAGo Pro and KANGAROO robots.

PAL Robotics also took part in the final event of euROBIN, Europe’s Network of Excellence in AI-based Robotics, at the European Parliament in Brussels. Fifteen AI-based robotic systems were demonstrated to representatives from the European Parliament, European Commission, industry and research organisations.

The Horizon Europe-funded euROBIN project is coordinated by the German Aerospace Center, DLR, and brings together robotics research organisations and companies across Europe. PAL Robotics is one of 31 core partner organisations in the network.

The company presented its KANGAROO humanoid robot as part of the live demonstrations, focusing on locomotion capabilities developed through its humanoid robotics research.

PAL Robotics’ TIAGo Pro was also used by Inria’s Hucebot team in a multi-robot demonstration called “Breakfast Cleanup”. Four robots worked together on tasks involved in clearing a breakfast table. TIAGo Pro identified perishable food, opened a refrigerator, placed the food inside and closed the refrigerator door.

A TIAGo mobile manipulator was used separately by researchers from IST Lisbon to sort waste from the same table.

PAL Robotics CEO and co-founder Francesco Ferro attended the event in his additional role as president of euRobotics, the European association for robotics research and innovation. He participated in discussions involving European policymakers, researchers and industry representatives on the development of AI-based robotics in Europe.

“Europe needs to continue investing in robotics, and take important decisions in the years ahead, to ensure we maintain a strong manufacturing base in the continent that can build on the incredible strength of our research,” Ferro said. “We need to stop fragmenting our efforts and start collaborating around real European needs, built on European values.”

The euROBIN network focuses on research into the transfer of AI-based robotic capabilities between different robots, tasks and environments. Its core consortium consists of 31 organisations from 14 countries, with a further 38 collaborators participating through cascade funding.
