PepsiCo has entered a multi-year agreement with autonomous trucking company Gatik to expand freight operations across its North American supply chain. Gatik is already transporting PepsiCo products in Texas, Arizona and Arkansas. The companies will focus on regional routes that move goods between facilities, including high-frequency and time-sensitive deliveries within PepsiCo’s distribution network.
The trucks are designed to operate on highways and surface streets. Gatik’s route-management system allows pickup and delivery plans to be adjusted in response to changes in demand, distribution-center activity and daily operating requirements. PepsiCo expects the deployment to provide additional transport capacity and improve delivery consistency without requiring extensive changes to its existing logistics operations.
PepsiCo began working with Gatik in 2022. Gatik said its broader operations currently achieve an on-time delivery rate of more than 98%, although the companies did not disclose the number of trucks covered by the agreement, its financial terms or a timetable for further deployment.
The companies said the additional capacity will be directed partly toward regional transport networks that are difficult to staff. PepsiCo described the technology as a way to support its existing workforce while increasing flexibility across its transportation system.
