PepsiCo to Automate Storage and Retrieval in Poland

by Pieter Werner

PepsiCo Polska plans to open an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) in Grodzisk Mazowiecki in the third quarter of 2026. The facility, developed with technology from Mecalux, is designed to enhance logistics capacity and streamline warehouse operations without expanding the existing site.

The system will connect production and dispatch through a fully automated process operating around the clock. It will use six stacker cranes and racking equipped with the Automated Pallet Shuttle, supported by an electric monorail system and automatic conveyors to transport pallets between production lines and storage.

Warehouse operations will be managed by Mecalux’s Easy WMS software, integrated with PepsiCo’s SAP eWM system to coordinate logistics activities such as goods receipt, storage, and outbound shipments. According to Bartłomiej Lesiuk, Warehouse Automation Design Manager at PepsiCo, the modular design allows flexibility to adjust to future operational needs.

This project is the third collaboration between Mecalux and PepsiCo Polska. The new facility incorporates energy recovery technology in the stacker cranes, expected to reduce energy use by up to 20 percent per movement, and an AI-based computer vision system for pallet positioning. PepsiCo anticipates that the automation will improve operational efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and enable direct deliveries. The company estimates the system will lower greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 200 tonnes annually.

PepsiCo is a global producer of snack foods and beverages, including brands such as Pepsi, Mirinda, Lay’s and Doritos. Mecalux specializes in storage technologies and warehouse management systems, with operations in multiple countries and a network of production and R&D centres.
