PrimeBOT presented its personal robotics concept at the United Nations’ AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, focusing on the potential use of home robots in artificial intelligence education. The summit, organized by the International Telecommunication Union in collaboration with more than 50 United Nations agencies, examines applications of artificial intelligence intended to support social and economic development.
PrimeBOT describes its devices as personal robots designed for use in homes and daily life rather than industrial settings. The company said its PrimeBOT Q1 model includes a developer console that allows users to program movements, expressions and conversational responses.
The platform supports block-based programming and allows users to convert their projects into Python code. It can also be used to train artificial intelligence models to recognize gestures and objects, according to the company. PrimeBOT is positioning the Q1 as an educational tool intended to give children practical experience with programming and machine learning. The company said the robot is designed to supplement, rather than replace, instruction from teachers and parents.
PrimeBOT is also holding discussions with educational institutions and nonprofit organizations in North America and Europe about the possible use of personal robots in youth artificial intelligence literacy programs. The company did not provide details on participating organizations, deployment schedules or commercial availability.
