Robotaxi live in Las Vegas

by Pieter Werner

Zoox has rolled out its first robotaxi service for the public in Las Vegas, putting its custom-built autonomous vehicles to work on and around the Strip. The service is now live and can be booked through the Zoox app on iOS and Android. For now, rides are free as the company eases passengers into the experience and gathers feedback. Stops include popular destinations such as Resorts World Las Vegas, AREA15, and Topgolf, with plans to expand the list in the months ahead. At some partner venues, Zoox has set up dedicated pickup areas and on-site staff to guide first-time riders.

Unlike retrofitted cars used by other autonomous driving projects, Zoox’s robotaxi was designed from the ground up for ride-hailing, with carriage-style seating and no steering wheel or driver’s seat. The company says the design is meant to reimagine how people move through cities rather than simply remove the driver. CEO Aicha Evans called Las Vegas an ideal place to debut the service, while co-founder and CTO Jesse Levinson described the launch as the start of a longer journey to expand to more U.S. cities. A waitlist is already open for San Francisco, though no launch date has been announced.
