SPS: Delta Shows Smart Industrial Automation Solutions

by Pieter Werner

Delta is presenting a range of industrial automation and collaborative robotics technologies at the ongoing SPS – Smart Production Solutions trade fair. The company’s exhibit includes newly released SIL3-certified safety modules with Functional Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE) support for its AX5 platform. According to Delta, these modules are designed to enable distributed safety control in environments that involve human-machine interaction, such as warehouse and logistics operations, woodworking equipment, packaging systems and food and beverage production lines.

Michael Mayer-Rosa, Head of Intelligent Robotic Systems and Senior Director of the Industrial Automation Business Group EMEA at Delta Electronics, said the sector is being shaped by digitalization, energy-related challenges and labour shortages. He stated that Delta is demonstrating how its automation and robotics portfolio can be used to address these developments.

Delta’s presence at SPS focuses on connected and energy-efficient automation systems. The company is highlighting the AX5 Safety-Series modules, which integrate safety functions into the AX5 platform without additional licensing requirements. The range includes a safety controller and compact input and output modules, all programmable in DIADesigner-AX. When combined with components such as the AX-500CEC00-0A or ASDA-A3-EP, the setup is intended to support applications that require safe motion control.

Delta is also showcasing its NC5 CNC platform, a new controller generation equipped with application-specific commands, RTCP capability and a graphical programming interface. Integrated CAD/CAM functions are designed to simplify process and path adjustments for machine builders. A live demonstration features a SCARA robot equipped with an RGB-D ToF camera to illustrate the interaction between image processing and robotic control.
