SPS: Pepperl+Fuchs Introduces Event-Driven Camera for Process Monitoring

by Marco van der Hoeven

Pepperl+Fuchs has introduced an event-driven industrial camera designed for process monitoring and remote diagnostics, which will be shown at the SPS trade fair. The VOC event camera records image and video sequences based on defined triggers, which can be activated via software, hardware, or motion detection. The device can capture up to 900 seconds before and after a triggered event. According to the company, this enables users to document faults and identify their causes.

The camera uses an integrated circular buffer that continuously records video. When a trigger signal is received, a predefined sequence is stored in the internal memory. The system supports live streams and recordings with timestamps and optional text overlays. Functions such as masking of selected image areas, temporary deactivation of the circular buffer during maintenance, and face-softening features are intended to support data protection requirements. Data transmission is encrypted via HTTPS.

The device is specified for operating temperatures between –30 and +50 degrees Celsius and has an IP65 protection rating. Integration into IT environments is possible via REST API. Live streams can be accessed through WebRTC for web applications or via RTSP for human–machine interfaces.

Pepperl+Fuchs provides two images showing the camera in production environments and the new device model. The files are available for download at the links supplied by the company.

Pepperl+Fuchs employs 6,450 people worldwide and reported sales of EUR 840 million in 2024. The company develops industrial sensor technology and explosion-protection products at its headquarters in Mannheim, Germany. Founded in 1945 as a family business, it now operates more than 40 subsidiaries across six continents.
