Québec-based OPTEL Group has acquired Vanguard Robotics, a company specializing in collaborative robotic automation for end-of-line pharmaceutical applications. The acquisition aims to expand OPTEL’s automation offerings amid rising demand for labor-saving technologies in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Founded in 2018, Vanguard Robotics provides turnkey palletizing systems designed to integrate with pharmaceutical production lines. The systems are tailored for regulated environments and are intended to improve efficiency while minimizing operational disruptions.
According to OPTEL, the acquisition builds on an existing partnership between the two companies. Louis Roy, Founder and CEO of OPTEL, stated that the integration of Vanguard’s robotic technologies with OPTEL’s existing track-and-trace systems is expected to enhance line efficiency and address labor-related challenges in manufacturing.
Market projections cited by OPTEL estimate the global collaborative robotics sector will exceed $10 billion by 2030, with annual growth rates between 30 and 40 percent. The adoption of such technologies in the United States is being driven by labor shortages and demographic shifts, which have prompted manufacturers to seek automation solutions that offer return on investment within one to two years.
Vanguard co-owner Olivier Laboissionnière said that joining OPTEL would support the global expansion of its technologies and contribute to advancing pharmaceutical automation with a focus on compliance and system integration.
