Sweden launches AI hub in Gothenburg

by Pieter Werner

Sweden is set to open a new artificial intelligence hub in Gothenburg in 2026 as part of a broader effort to support the creation and expansion of AI-focused companies. The initiative, called AI Gothenburg, is being developed through a public-private partnership involving private entrepreneurs, Business Region Göteborg, Business Sweden, Swedish industrial companies and NVIDIA, which will serve as technology partner.

The project is intended to provide early-stage founders with an environment to develop, test and deploy applied AI products alongside industry partners. Organizers say the model is designed to connect entrepreneurs, engineers, corporate partners and technology providers in one setting, with the aim of shortening development cycles and improving access to expertise and resources.

AI Gothenburg will focus on sectors where the region already has an industrial base, including mobility, energy, healthcare, manufacturing and maritime technology. In addition to supporting local startups, the hub is also intended to serve as an entry point for international AI teams seeking to establish a presence in Sweden.

Patrik Andersson, chief executive of Business Region Göteborg, said the initiative is intended to help early-stage founders build companies more quickly through closer collaboration with industry and experienced partners. Andreas Netz, U.S. head of invest at Business Sweden, said the partnership with NVIDIA is aimed at helping founders move from pilot projects to production-ready AI applications.

Linda Malm, regional manager enterprise for the Nordics at NVIDIA, said startups require not only computing capacity and tools but also access to a community that can speed up development and execution. Magnus Emilson, founder of Visit Group and co-founder of ESS Group, said the initiative is meant to support a new generation of entrepreneurs as AI lowers barriers to starting companies.

The hub is being positioned as part of Sweden’s national AI strategy, with the aim of turning policy priorities into commercial activity and regional company creation. Organizers said developments tied to AI Gothenburg and other regional AI initiatives in Sweden will be presented at NVIDIA GTC 2026.
