Tesla Shows New Capabilities of Optimus Robot

by Marco van der Hoeven

Tesla has released a new video showing its Optimus humanoid robot performing a variety of domestic tasks. The footage, published via the official Tesla Optimus account on social media platform X, features the robot engaged in activities such as stirring food, vacuuming floors, and cleaning surfaces. The post was accompanied by the caption, “I’m not just dancing all day, ok,” referencing earlier demonstrations focused primarily on the robot’s movement capabilities.

The video marks a shift in focus from entertainment-oriented features to more practical applications, aligning with Tesla’s broader ambition to position Optimus as a general-purpose robotic assistant. CEO Elon Musk has previously stated that he sees Optimus as potentially becoming Tesla’s most impactful product in the long term.

According to company plans, more than 1,000 Optimus units are expected to be deployed within Tesla’s own operations by the end of 2025. Commercial availability could follow in 2026, although the company has not yet confirmed a timeline for market release. Industry observers note that while the demonstration showcases progress in humanoid robotics, practical deployment in industrial and domestic environments remains a challenge. Specialized robots currently outperform general-purpose humanoids in most factory applications due to efficiency and reliability constraints.
