Trossen Robotics has integrated Stereolabs stereo cameras into its new Physical AI hardware platforms for robot learning and data collection. The Trossen Workbench and Rivet systems use a ZED X Mini camera for the main scene view and two ZED X Nano cameras mounted at the robot wrists.
Both platforms use two WidowX Pro six-degree-of-freedom robot arms. Depending on the configuration, the arms offer a reach of between 700 mm and 1,000 mm, payload capacities of 4 to 6 kg and repeatability of 1 mm. Processing is handled by an onboard NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin with 64 GB of memory, while the systems support teleoperation over local networks and the internet.
The three-camera configuration is intended to provide synchronized visual data for training robot manipulation models. A centrally mounted ZED X Mini captures the overall workspace and stereo-depth information, while the two wrist-mounted ZED X Nano cameras provide close-range views of the grippers and manipulated objects.
Each ZED X Nano uses two 2.3-megapixel, 1920-by-1200 global-shutter sensors and can capture images at up to 60 frames per second. According to Stereolabs, its depth system can measure geometry at distances starting from 3 cm. The cameras connect to the Jetson system through GMSL2 cabling and include an onboard inertial measurement unit.
Trossen said the camera system is factory calibrated and synchronized across the three views. The configuration is designed to allow visual data to be recorded while encoding and inference workloads are running on the same computing platform.
Data collected during teleoperated sessions includes synchronized RGB and depth information from multiple viewpoints. Trossen is positioning the datasets for use in imitation learning, reinforcement learning and simulation-to-real-world development. The platforms support ROS 2 as well as NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab.
The Workbench and mobile Rivet platform form part of Trossen’s broader Physical AI hardware range, which also includes Glide passive leader arms and the Cockpit operator station for teleoperated data collection.
