U.S. Leads Global AI Race with $470 Billion in Private Investments

by Pieter Werner

Over the past decade, the United States has attracted more than \$470 billion in private investments in artificial intelligence, according to data published by Stocklytics.com and cited in the Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2025 from Stanford University. This figure is nearly three times the combined total of the next three countries—China, the United Kingdom, and Canada—positioning the U.S. as the largest recipient of private capital for AI development globally.

China ranked second with \$119.3 billion in private AI investment, followed by the United Kingdom with \$18.1 billion and Canada with \$15.3 billion. Other countries among the top recipients include Israel and Germany, which attracted \$14.9 billion and \$13.2 billion, respectively.

The reported investments include venture capital, private equity, and individual backing for AI startups and private sector AI initiatives. The volume of large-scale deals has also grown. In the past year, 15 private AI investments in the United States exceeded $1 billion, an increase from nine such deals the previous year. Investments in the \$500 million to \$1 billion range also rose, with 20 deals reported, up from nine the year prior. The data suggests a widening investment gap between the United States and other countries in the AI sector, driven by sustained capital inflows into U.S.-based startups and projects.
