Zaytran Launches Gripper for Large Parts

by Pieter Werner

Zaytran has introduced the XRAY-S-5800 robotic gripper, expanding its product line with a model intended for large-part automation applications that involve high accelerations, heavy loads, and elevated robot transfer speeds. The gripper is designed for use in large robotic systems where increasing payload capacity and faster cycle times place higher mechanical demands on end-of-arm tooling.

The XRAY-S-5800 is engineered to handle heavy payloads and long jaw lengths while maintaining positioning accuracy during high-speed transfers. According to the company, the gripper is suited for applications such as positioning large cast components in horizontal machining centers, where stability under side and moment loads is required to maintain throughput and repeatability.

The design incorporates dual machine-tool bearing rails intended to withstand side loads and torque generated during rapid acceleration and deceleration. This configuration is intended to support higher robot velocities while reducing mechanical wear and unplanned downtime. The gripper also features a bronze-based synchronizing mechanism designed to extend the service life of the internal precision components.

Zaytran stated that the XRAY-S-5800 delivers up to 5,800 newtons of gripping force per jaw and supports torque loads of up to 1,400 newton-meters, allowing robots to operate at higher speeds without loss of part stability. The gripper can be configured with analog or digital scale options to provide slide position feedback and part size confirmation, enabling multiple product variants to be handled on a single automation line. An optional mechanical Power-Out-Brake is available to lock the jaws in place in the event of pneumatic pressure loss, reducing the risk of part drops during power interruptions.
