AI and digital twins at Farnborough Airshow

‘From products to complex systems of systems’

by Marco van der Hoeven

Dassault Systèmes will present its 3DEXPERIENCE platform at the Farnborough International Airshow, scheduled for July 22-26, 2024, in Farnborough, England. The company will demonstrate how this platform aids the aerospace and defense industry in addressing contemporary challenges and advancing through digital technology like AI and digital twins.

The showcase will include generative design experiences, virtual twins of operations, model-based systems engineering, maintenance simulations, and augmented reality demonstrations for operators. The presentations will highlight how this technology supports the industry’s transition from traditional acquisition processes to mission engineering, from standalone products to integrated systems of systems, from isolated supply chains to value networks, and from conventional aviation to environmental stewardship.

Dassault Systèmes will host discussions with experts from various sectors including industry, research, and academia. Representatives from the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Cranfield University, Fokker Next Gen, Joby Aviation, National Institute for Aviation Research, and Vertical Aerospace are among the participants. The event will feature panel discussions on sovereignty, defense modernization, quality enhancement, sustainable innovation, and workforce development.

Dassault Systèmes emphasizes the shift in the Aerospace & Defense industry towards sustainable innovation, necessitated by the accelerating development of sustainable aerospace vehicles, the evolution of supply chains into value networks, and the modernization of defense systems with cyber-secure technologies. Their platform is designed to support these transformational objectives with an integrated, open, model-based data environment that aims to span the entire lifecycle of aerospace and defense projects.
