Moscow police uses facial recognition to arrest protesters

According to Russian press agency TASS the Moscow police force uses a facial recognition system to detect participants in demonstrations against the government. The system is said to detected those who had been put on a database for their repeated participation in ‘unauthorized events’.

The press agency mentions police on the Moscow subway detecting participants in demonstrations using a facial recognition system. Even before the rally began people had been detained on subway stations with this facial recognition system. According to a source in law enforcement the system detected those who had been put on the database for their repeated participation in unauthorized events, some of them already had criminal records. Of the 2,000 people attending the rally some 150 had been arrested.
