Amazon and iRobot have altered the terms of their merger agreement, with the tech giant now paying $51.75 per share, down from the initially agreed $61.00 per share, according to a joint statement released yesterday.

Amazon is scaling down tests of its home delivery robot Scout, as part of a series of cost cuttings. According to Amazon the field test ‘wasn’t meeting customers’ needs’, accorsing to a comment from Amazon to Bloomberg.

Amazon has announced it will acquire Belgian firm Cloostermans, which builds robots for warehouses. Purpose of this acquisition is to build ‘next-generation supply chain mechatronics’. Cloostermans is already a supplier for the Amazon-warehouses. Recently Amazon announced another expansion in the robotics-space, by acquiring iRobot.

The FTC will review the $1.7 billion takeover of robot vacuum maker iRobot by Amazon. It has to decide if the deal violates antitrust law. This review comes as the FTC is also conducting a monopolization probe of Amazon. The FTC is, among other things, investigating whether the data generated about a consumer by the Roomba vacuum will give it an unfair advantage over other retailers.
