Walmart invests in Cruise, provider of autonomous vehicles

by Pieter Werner

Walmart announced it will be supporting the development of autonomous vehicles by making an investment in Cruise, a San Francisco-based company producing an all-electric fleet of self-driving cars. The investment aims to develop a last mile delivery ecosystem that’s fast, low-cost and scalable.

Walmart began working with Cruise in November of last year developing a delivery pilot in Scottsdale, Arizona. Cruise operates an all-electric fleet powered by 100% renewable energy, which fits the Target of Walmart of zero emissions by 2040. This will be powered by 100% renewable energy by 2035, and throughout the supply chain and an environmental initiative, Project Gigaton, one of the largest private sector consortiums for climate action.
