Exoskeleton supports special forces

Mehler Protection, in collaboration with Mawashi Science & Technology and the French National Gendarmerie’s elite tactical unit GIGN, has introduced the ExoM Up-Armoured Exoskeleton. This new product aims to redefine the standards in weight management and ballistic protection for military and law enforcement personnel.

The ExoM Up-Armoured Exoskeleton, developed jointly by these organizations, focuses on enhancing operator safety. It integrates weight management with ballistic protection, aiming to provide high-level capabilities without adding unnecessary weight. The technology is designed to redistribute up to 70% of the load from the shoulders to the ground. This feature is intended to reduce physical strain, lower the risk of injuries, and allow operators to focus more effectively on their tasks.

Daniel von Chamier, Group Director of Sales at Mehler Systems, stated that the ExoM not only redistributes load efficiently but also offers full-body coverage up to VPAM 8 level in ballistic protection. The design of the ExoM Exoskeleton includes ergonomic and mobility features, ensuring operators can maintain a high degree of ease and range of motion, up to 99%. It also includes a flexible spine, sliding waist belt, and articulated joints for better navigation in challenging terrains and confined spaces.

Notably, the ExoM operates as a passive exoskeleton without the need for external power sources. This design choice makes it suitable for extended missions or operations in remote locations, as it eliminates the requirement for heavy batteries and charging equipment.

Etienne Lamoureux, General Manager of Mawashi Science & Technology, expressed that the collaboration with Mehler Protection in developing the ExoM Up-Armoured Exoskeleton was an exciting journey. He highlighted that the integration of Mawashi’s expertise in the exoskeleton’s structural design with Mehler Protection’s proficiency in ballistic protection has led to a product that establishes new standards in its field.

The introduction of the ExoM Up-Armoured Exoskeleton signifies Mehler Protection’s ongoing commitment to innovation in ballistic protection, with an emphasis on advancing technology and delivering solutions that meet the evolving needs of military and law enforcement professionals.
