Hyundai is in talks with SoftBank Group to acquire robot maker Boston Dynamics, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The value of the acquisition of the robotics company would be approximately $1 billion, Bloomberg quotes an anonymous source. Boston Dynamics, Hyundai and SoftBank declined to comment.
Boston Dynamics, founded at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was later bought by Google, and in 2017 sold to SoftBank. It produces famous robots like Atlas and Spot, but according to the Bloomberg report they generate a lot of publicity, but no profit. The experience Hyundai has with industrial robots may change that.
