Razer introduces AI desk companion

by Pieter Werner

Project AVA from Razer has expanded beyond its original role as an esports AI coach into a more general-purpose AI desk companion built for gaming and everyday use. First shown as a coaching concept at CES 2025, the project now centers on ongoing, personalized interaction through animated holographic avatars and adaptive AI software.

The current version of Project AVA features a five-inch animated holographic display designed to create a more conversational experience. The avatars use eye tracking, facial expressions, and lip synchronization to respond to users in real time. Users can choose from different characters, including Razer-created avatars such as Kira and Zane, and select personality styles that affect how the assistant communicates.

Project AVA’s AI system is built to learn from repeated use, storing user preferences to shape future responses. The device combines an HD camera, far-field microphone, and eye-tracking sensors to maintain contextual awareness. A PC Vision Mode allows the AI to interpret on-screen activity, enabling it to offer guidance during gameplay or provide help with productivity tasks based on what is visible on the user’s screen.

Gaming remains a central focus, but Razer is positioning Project AVA as a broader digital assistant. The system is intended to manage schedules, suggest meals or outfits, assist with brainstorming and analysis, and act as an in-game partner that offers strategy support. The project reflects an effort to blend entertainment, utility, and personality into a single AI companion designed to sit at the center of a user’s desk.
