30 Shelf-to-Person robots in online pharmacy

by Pieter Werner

Geekplus has deployed the first ‘Shelf-to-Person’ PopPick installation in the Nordic region for Med24.dk, one of the largest online pharmacy wholesalers in the area. The project in Denmark, in partnership with System Teknik, includes three PopPick stations and thirty Shelf-to-Person robots, providing a flexible solution in a region traditionally dominated by fixed automation systems.

Med24.dk, operating in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, has experienced significant sales growth and the pressures of rapid delivery demands from customers seeking pharmaceutical, health, and beauty products. Peak periods had also placed considerable strain on their operations. According to Blond Shkodrani, channel partner manager for the Nordics at Geekplus, Med24.dk’s success necessitated a modular, automated order fulfillment solution to efficiently meet demand.

Geekplus’s modular Shelf-to-Person solution optimizes warehouse operations by using mobile robots to transport shelves. This system accommodates goods of all sizes and eliminates the need for infrastructure investment, making it a flexible response to order fulfillment challenges.

PopPick workstations employ two retrieval arms and four presentation locations to simultaneously present pickers with multiple movable racks holding 78 totes each, achieving an industry-leading throughput of 450 totes per hour. PopPick can store goods of various types and sizes, is not limited to small items, improves ergonomics for workers while picking, and occupies less space than traditional systems, allowing customers to utilize more stations without adding facility space.

Nils Træholt, CEO of Med24.dk, expressed satisfaction with the investment in floor robots from Geekplus, believing that this innovative technology can help the company achieve its growth ambitions while maintaining good delivery times for the benefit of customers.

Morten Kirch, CSO at System Teknik, also emphasized the positive impact of the tailor-made, automated solution in meeting Med24.dk’s needs due to their growth.

Geekplus offers a suite of Goods-to-Person mobile order fulfillment solutions, all controlled by a single software platform. According to Shkodrani, the partnership with trusted partners like System Teknik demonstrates that Geekplus is a comprehensive provider of modular warehouse automation solutions across Europe.
