New Mitsubishi Electric robot handles larger payloads with longer reach

by Pieter Werner

Mitsubishi Electric has unveiled its MELFA RV-12CRL vertical articulated robot, which is designed to accommodate larger payloads and longer reaches, specifically offering a reach of 1,504 mm and a payload capacity of 12 kg. The robot’s extended capabilities are aimed at improving operational efficiency in a diverse array of industries, including food and beverage, automotive, lithium-ion battery manufacturing, and logistics.

The RV-12CRL model has the ability to operate at high speeds while maintaining precision, with an accuracy of ±0.04 mm, even under heavy loads. This makes it suited for applications in pick-and-place and assembly processes. Additionally, it features safety functions through MELFA SafePlus, which employs sensors and light curtains to modulate the robot’s speed, torque, and reach.

This technology allows the robot to operate safely alongside human workers without requiring safety cages, enhancing its utility in flexible production environments. The RV-12CRL includes next-generation servo motors equipped with battery-less encoders, which eliminate the need for battery replacement and minimize maintenance downtime.
