At the beginning of the European Robotic Forum 2023 the mayor of Odense, Peter Rahbæk Juel, highlighted the impact the robotics industry has had on his community. At a reception in Odense City Hall he said that the robotics cluster gives employment to 4,600 people, and already comprises an ecosystem of 130 companies.

This week the future of robotics will be on show in Spain. At IFEMA Madrid a broad spectrum of technologies related to robotics will take center stage. Approximately 10.000 visitors will be informed about a trends in robotics. Compared to several years ago the main trend is the intelligent connection of these technologies. As CEO Enric Forner says: “The future of robotics is intelligent robotics.”

‘Robotics is a source of economic growth in Europe, but at the same time it raises societal concerns’, says Anneli Roose of Robotics4EU, a Horizon 2020-project of the European Commission in this interview with Marco van der Hoeven at ERF 2022. Robotics4EU aims to discuss and adress these concerns, and bring stakeholders together. Among other things, they launched the commmunity Robospot.org ‘Robots, and AI-powered robots, are the future, but we must talk about the socio-economic issues.’

The World Economic Forum has launched a coalition of cities which will work together to make the possibility of advanced and urban aerial mobility a reality. Specialized companies such as Joby Aviation and Volocopter are aiming to have vehicles that will power this revolution in piloted or autonomous flights of four to six passengers ready in a few years. Other traditional aerospace companies such as Airbus and Boeing are also exploring how these new vehicles could support aerial mobility in the future.
