AI-powered discovery in new UiPath release

by Pieter Werner

UiPath announced their UiPath Platform 21.4 release, supporting among other things AI-powered automation discovery. The new Task Mining solution uses machine learning models to pinpoint the most frequent task patterns from data and identify repetitive activities that could be automated without interrupting employees’ work.

“Combining process and task mining with automation delivers higher value and higher quality automation especially as companies expand the scope, scale, and reach of automation,” said Maureen Fleming, IDC’s program vice president of intelligent process automation research. “As line of business workers increasingly are involved with automation development, implementing effective methodologies and best practices along with end-to-end, policy-based governance are needed.”

“UiPath Task Mining was able to identify eight unique processes which occurred more than 5,000 times in a proof of concept at Paychex. Applied to the entire department annually, this single Task Mining project has allowed us to understand one-third of the team’s work,” said Cassy Dunn, business process improvement manager at Paychex, an all-in-one SaaS HR solution provider. “The ability to easily view variation, visually normalize data, and define and search for best practice processes from inside the task mining application differentiate UiPath from the market.”

“Automation is opening possibilities to the masses, and while that is a big multiplier in ROI for an organization, it also adds risk factors. UiPath provides the scale, governance, and security capabilities that customers need to centralize and federate their automation programs,” said Ted Kummert, EVP of Products and Engineering at UiPath. “As the automation footprint expands across the organization, these controls, combined with the power of our AI insights and our flexible new cloud management features, bring every user an unparalleled automation experience.”

New features include:

  • Enterprise-scale management and governance: With 21.4, UiPath is launching Automation Ops℠, a cloud-first, web-based application enabling admins to quickly set up policies for automation users and developers. With Automation Ops, organizations can easily govern large deployments of the UiPath Studio family products and attended software robots. As part of the UiPath Automation Cloud™, Automation Ops is instantly available to existing customers. It is tightly connected to Studio and UiPath Assistant and offers oversight and control without intrusion and undue restrictions. Automation Ops deploys at an organization level and allows centralized control for IT but can be tailored to individual needs and supports targeted policies for groups of people with different levels of automation skills or access.
  • AI-powered automation discovery: The UiPath Platform leverages AI and enables discovery of automation opportunities that have the highest impact on the most important business KPIs. 21.4 delivers a new Task Mining solution that uses advanced machine learning models to pinpoint the most frequent task patterns from data and identify repetitive activities that could be automated without interrupting employees’ work. Simultaneously, advanced process mining tools are now integrated with Automation Hub to allow users to identify and implement automations that create instant operational improvements and help achieve goals faster.
  • Expansion of UiPath Automation Cloud™ capabilities: The 21.4 release provides an array of new services, tools, and capabilities that give customers more options to migrate, build, manage, and measure enterprise-scale automation in the cloud. UiPath Automation Cloud™ software robots deliver unattended robot capacity as needed, with no infrastructure or management required by customers. Also, the analytical power of UiPath Insights is now available in the Automation Cloud, giving visibility to understand everything from software robot performance to automation ROI across the organization.
  • Upgrades for all user experiences from everyday business users to professional developers: UiPath simplifies and expands the user experience for all users with 21.4, from citizen and professional developers to those who support or indirectly engage with automation, such as IT, data scientists, and the center of excellence team. The more engaging experience encourages faster adoption by users and will reduce help desk calls.
